Saturday, 16 August 2008

The federal government should implement transportation projects particularly in Penang state for the benefit of all people and not only for political reasons or relationships.Transport minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said yesterday he strongly believed that what was being carried out and what was supposed to be implemented by the federal government should be continued instead of halting it, for the sake and welfare being of the people.

Datuk Ong was speaking to the reporters after meeting with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, State Executive Councillors Lim Hock Seng and Chow Kon Yeow at Komtar.Datuk Ong later joined Guan Eng, Hock Seng and Kon Yeow for a briefing by the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) officials on the 329 km Ipoh-Padang Besar electrified double track project which is currently ongoing.According to Guan Eng, they held positive discussions related to a number of issues and challenges in Penang.

Among subjects discussed was the future plans for the Bayan Lepas Airport which requires a systematic and dependable operation to cater the increasing number of visitors and tourist.Guan Eng also added that the State Government had also set aside a 40.5ha land for the airport’s future expansion.
