Dr Hilmi admitted error, what about Dr Koh?

Thursday, 31 July 2008

Former Penang deputy chief minister and Umno state assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya admitted fault for a land deal blunder that could cost the Penang state government some RM40 million in total.Dr Hilmi surprised his Umno colleague in the state assembly when he stood up and admitted his responsibility over the error which occurred when he was the state religion, land, planning and development committee chairman from 1999 to 2004 in the then Gerakan-led BN state government.

According to Dr Hilmi he felt responsible for the error over the land deal which he made.Penang Chief Minister and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng had earlier revealed that the previous state government had approved the 4.3ha plot of land to an individual apparently a quarry operator. The individual took the case to the court when the state government cancelled the land transfer. The state government incurred losses when the court decision favoured the individual with a final judgment of RM29 million as compensation. With interest of 8% per annum since 2004 then, the compensation could reach up to RM40 million by now.

Guan Eng also commended Dr Hilmi for admitting his mistake in the quarry case and for taking responsibility over it.What about former Penang chief minister and Gerakan acting president Dr Koh Tsu Koon? Why is he keeping quiet over this error which was made during his era? As the chief minister from 1999 to 2004, Dr Koh should also take responsibility over the error which incurred millions of Ringgit, which means wastage of public fund. Why were the people not informed on this during his reign?
