The second Penang Bridge project may fail to materialise if the agreement cannot be reached by this August between the bridge developer UEM Builders Bhd and its Chinese partner, China Habour Engineering Co. Ltd.The delay in agreement between UEM and China Habour is because both companies had disagreed on the final cost structure of the project.
As such, both companies should settle their disputes and disagreement as soon as possible as it will become an embarassment to the state and the whole nation should the major partner pull out and the project is cancelled. The BN federal government should take full responsibilities to ensure the second bridge project takes off as scheduled. Failing to ensure the success of the project may further jeopardize the investors' confidence and affect the economic well-being of Penang as well.
