Penang Chief Minister and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng yesterday confirmed that 16 September will be a public holiday in Penang to mark the anniversary of the formation of Malaysia. However, according to Guan Eng, the state government decided not to implement the holiday this September as businesses and manufacturers were not given ample time to prepare.
When contacted, the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers welcomed the state government's move to differ the holiday to next year and mentioned that all their members will have no problem in accepting another holiday next year since they will have enough time to prepare for the day.
